Who am I?

I am an engineer, programmer, and life-long learner. I was drawn to programming, and subsequently my passion for computers, because I enjoy solving problems. For me, computer programming is simply an extension of my real-world problem solving skills. When I’m presented with a problem I tackle it using logic, critical thinking, and experimentation.

As an electrical and biomedical engineering student, I have had the opportunity to take a deep look into a variety of subjects: mathematics, physics, electronics, chemistry, biology, software design, and even nanotechnology. Being able to draw from a wide range of subjects and synthesize that knowledge to create something new is what engineering, and problem solving, is all about.

My love of solving problems has fed into my love of learning. From a young age I have wanted to learn as much about everything as possible, because the more I know, the more problems I can solve. To quote Albert Einstein, “No problem can be solved by the same consciousness that created it.”

Skills

Programming

I've been interested in programming since my dad taught me HTML and CSS in 3rd grade. Between university classes and my own exploration, I have experince with Python, C/C++, Javascript, and Assembly. I have used them to encrypt text documents, perform chemical stoichiometry, and program microcontrollers.

Applied Mathematics

As an engineer, I have a strong appreciation for math and physics. In fact, differential equations was my favorite class in my undergrad. I have experience working with discrete math, signal processing, statistics, chemistry, physics, electric power, nanotechnology, and electrodynamics.

Modeling and Simulation

I have worked with many different 3D modeling and simulation softwares including AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, Matlab, and COMSOL Multiphysics. I have also used LTSpice, LabView, and Altium Designer for circuit simulation and PCB design.

Electronics

As an electrical engineer, I have a lot of experience with electronics. In 2017, I led a team of engineering freshman to win a quadcopter building competition at my first university. I have taken classes on circuit design and analysis, electronics, embedded systems, and control systems. I also have experience designing and hand-soldering PCBs as well as using PIC and Atmel microcontrollers.

Technical Writing

Working as a network engineer, creating and maintaining network documentation was among my chief responsibilities. Clear, concise, technical writing is a skill I have worked hard to develop.

Troubleshooting

To compliment my programming and technology skills, I demonstrate strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills using critical thinking and experimentation.

Education

North Dakota State University

Attended: January 2019 - May 2022
Major: Electrical Engineering
Minor: Biomedical Engineering

I went to NDSU in 2019 to pursue a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. While studying electrical engineering and looking at available career paths and research topics, I developed an interest in the multidiciplinary opportunities within electrical engineering. I added a minor in biomedical engineering so that I could learn more about biological systems and the use of electrical engineering in biosensors and medical devices.

University of California - Irvine

Attended: September 2017 - June 2018
Major: Computer Science and Engineering

At UC Irvine I was involved in Engineers for a Sustainable World. I also led a team to win the freshman quad-copter building competition. While transferring from UC Irvine to NDSU, I spent 6 months working full time at Target, before returning to univeristy during the spring semester 2019.

Farmington High School

Graduated: June 2017
GPA: 4.1
ACT: 32
SAT: 1380

I took 6 AP courses and four college courses through nearby universitites during my junior and senior years. I was a member of the National Honor Society and the captain of the Mock Trial team. In addition to schoolwork, I pursued learning about computers and programming through online resources and books.

Work Experience

Electrical Engineer

BAE Systems
May 2024 - Present

I designed, developed, and tested advanced electronic systems for munitions systems, ensuring compliance with rigorous military standards (e.g., MIL-STD-461 and MIL-STD-810). My work focused on circuit design, schematic development, for high-reliability systems as well as component sourcing and selection adhering to ITAR and defense supply chain requirements. I collaborated with a large cross-functional team to create HV power distribution and embedded control systems in addition to system-level integration and validation. Deliverables produced include schematics made in Cadence OrCAD and Capital Harness as well as BOMs and test procedures for 5 different subsystems.

Test Engineer

Keytronic
July 2023 - April 2024

I worked as an electrical test engineer for Keytronic, a global PCB manufacturer, designing solutions for automated functional and in-circuit testing. My role involved developing test fixtures, writing test scripts in Python and LabView, designing custom relay driving PCBs with KiCAD, troubleshooting and soldering electronics, collaboration with on–site and remote teams, AGILE project management, and rigorous attention to detail. I gained a new perspective on the PCB and electronics manufacturing industry thanks to my time here.

Product Engineer

Critical Room Control
July 2022 - April 2023

I worked as a product engineer for Critical Room Control, a Milwaukee-based engineering firm specializing in critical room pressurization systems for hospitals and laboratories across the US. My role involved electrical hardware design, embedded software development, product testing, and writing techinical documentation. Specific expertise I gained on the job includes PCB design with Altium Designer, knowledge of the BAS communication protocol BACnet, and implementation of electronic controls using PID loops. Unfortunately, the Minneapolis office closed at the end of April 2023 after internal restructuring following the retirment of the branch director.

Assistant Network Infrastructure Engineer

NDSU Network Engineering and Operations
July 2019 - May 2022

I worked as an assistant network infrastructure engineer for the Network Engineering and Operations department at NDSU while pursing my degree in electrical engineering. My responsibilities included assisting in setting up and maintaining NDSU's internet and telephone networks, configuring networking equipment, and troubleshooting issues with the network. I was involved in several large projects such as a complete fiber optic core overhaul, replacing all campus wireless access points, and setting up networking devices in newly constructed buildings.

Help Desk Consultant

NDSU IT Help Desk
April 2019 - July 2019

I worked as an IT Help Desk consultant for North Dakota State University's IT Help Desk. My main tasks included assisting students and faculty with their campus accounts, setting up WiFi, and solving computer and phone problems.

Logistics Team Member

Target
June 2018 - January 2019

I worked at Target in Ft. Collins, CO and Moorhead, MN on the flow (logistics) team. Tasks included unloading delivery trucks, stocking shelves, managing product in the backroom, and helping customers.

Teacher

Computer Explorers
May 2015 - August 2016

Computer Explorers is a Twin Cities based company offering summer and after-school camps to elementary-aged kids. As an instructor, I taught video game building, Lego engineering, stop-motion animation, and Java/Python programming classes.
